OF approximately 300 Covid-19 patients accessing care in the parallel health care system, three are children, one of whom is a patient in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
This was revealed by Principal Medical Officer Dr Maryam Abdool-Richards during the Ministry of Health’s virtual media conference on Monday.
The other two children are at the ward level, she said.
Dr Abdool-Richards said occupancy at the ICU units remained high and currently was at 85% occupancy rate.
She made again another appeal for persons to get vaccinated especially with the community transmission of the Delta variant of concern.
She said, “We continue to see paediatric cases hospitalised in our parallel healthcare system. These children are severely and critically ill and we would like to save the lives of your children and ensure that they are healthy.”
