A 16-YEAR-OLD girl who was allegedly beaten by a close relative died in hospital on Tuesday.
According to reports, around 4.10 pm, a nurse at the Couva District Health Facility contacted the Couva Police Station and reported that the girl was brought in by her father unresponsive. She passed away while undergoing treatment.
Her name was given as Alliyah Alexander a pupil of Couva West Secondary and lived at Rig Road, Claxton Bay.
It was reported that she was beaten with a belt and fell down a flight of stairs, by a relative who is also a soldier.
The individual was detained and brought to the Couva Police Station as other relatives attempted to attack him at the health facility.
