‘…. many of us are living in fear even within our own homes’

ADDRESSING the horrendous crime situation must be the top collective priority for Trinidad and Tobago.
This is the main concern for four major business chambers which issued a joint press release on Thursday.
The chambers include: The Energy Chamber, AMCHAM T&T, the Trinidad and Tobago Chamber of Industry and Commerce and the Trinidad and Tobago Manufacturing Association (TTMA).
The release stated, “As 2022 draws to a close, with a record number of murders, every single citizen is feeling the effects of the crime crisis and many of us are living in fear even within our own homes.”
Dealing with crime will involve all of society and concerted action from many institutions and individuals including Parliament, Cabinet, National Security Council, the Police Service, Customs Division, Coast Guard, Judiciary, religious leaders, non-governmental organisations and right through to the choices made by private businesses and individual citizens, the chambers stated.
The chambers said that they were committed to play whatever role they can to help address the crime situation and in the past have done what could be done in their capacity.
“Given the current crisis, it is imperative that we all redouble our efforts to fight crime from all angles. As we enter a new year, we will be intensifying our efforts and we will be reaching out to all stakeholders to find ways that we can constructively help bring the crime situation under control,” the release stated.
