CHARGES of misbehaviour in public office against seven officers have been re-laid.
This was confirmed in a press release by the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) on Tuesday.
The officers—Insp Deyal Ramlakhan, acting Cpl Shaheed Khan, PC Davanan Ragbir, PC Jason Osouna, PC Macai Joseph, PC Cleon Smith, and PC Reyon Charles— had the charges of misbehaviour in public office and conspiracy to pervert the course of justice discharged on November 18.
Master Sarah De Silva made the decision after the prosecution failed twice to comply with court directions. The charges were not dismissed, meaning they could be re-laid in the future.
These officers are now expected to reappear in court to face the charges.
The TTPS stated that following discussions with the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), police received advice to re-lay charges against the accused officers.
Commissioner Erla Harewood- Christopher said, “The re laying of these charges demonstrates our commitment to ensuring that justice is served.
“The TTPS will continue to work closely with the office of the DPP to ensure the proper determination of these matters.”
