A police officer is dead after his car collided with a utility pole on Monday afternoon.
Reports indicate that the officer was travelling on the northbound lane of Sir Solomon Hochoy highway in a white BMW around 12:30 pm, when he lost control of the vehicle and struck a utility pole.
Police officers of the Highway Patrol Unit, Emergency Response Patrol and Couva Police Station responded to the accident.
It was reported that officers from the Couva Fire Station had to use the “Jaws of Life” to remove the officer from the wreckage.
A district medical officer pronounced him dead at the scene.
