A police officer and a pedestrian were injured during a shooting incident in Tunapuna.
The incident took place on Monday, according to a release from the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS).
The TTPS said that around 7.45 pm, officers attached to the North Central Division were on mobile patrol in a marked police vehicle along Maingot and Fairley Streets, Tunapuna, when they responded to a report that a woman had been assaulted.
After making inquiries at the home of the person alleged to be the perpetrator, the officers were returning to their police vehicle, which was parked across Fairley Street, when they heard several loud explosions.
The officers saw two armed assailants emerge from a nearby yard and open fire in their direction.

The officers took cover and returned fire in self-defence. The assailants then escaped.
A pedestrian, who was walking along the road on his way home, was also injured in his right shoulder by a projectile.
The release said Commissioner of Police Allister Guevarro and DCP Operations Suzette Martin immediately visited the injured police officer and pedestrian. Both are in stable condition and are receiving medical care at a health facility.
