OVER the past ten months, since the people of Trinidad and Tobago voted for change on 28 April 2025, the United National Congress Government has been working relentlessly to begin repairing the deep damage left behind by the former PNM administration.
Let us be very honest with ourselves as a country: the condition in which the PNM left Trinidad and Tobago was deeply troubling. Our economy was weakened, key industries were stagnating, public services were under strain, and far too many citizens felt abandoned by a government that seemed increasingly disconnected from the daily struggles of ordinary people.
Years of poor management, indecision, and misplaced priorities left our nation facing serious economic and social challenges. Businesses struggled with uncertainty, opportunities for young people declined, and many families were forced to endure rising costs of living while watching the country drift without a clear plan for growth and development.
When the UNC returned to office in April 2025, we did not inherit a stable platform. We inherited a country that required urgent attention, serious leadership, and immediate action.
In just ten months, the UNC Government, under the leadership of Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar, has begun the important work of stabilising the economy, restoring confidence, and re-engaging both local and international partners to bring investment, opportunity, and growth back to Trinidad and Tobago.
Across multiple sectors, we have begun reversing years of neglect. Government ministries have been working to improve efficiency, engage stakeholders, and restart initiatives that had been allowed to stagnate. We are once again positioning Trinidad and Tobago as a place where business can grow, where investors have confidence, and where citizens can believe in the future of their country.
But we must also acknowledge a simple reality: no responsible government can undo ten years of economic mismanagement and neglect overnight.
What we can do—and what we have been doing—is laying the foundation for a stronger, more resilient economy and a better future for the people of Trinidad and Tobago.
The difference today is clear. There is renewed leadership. There is renewed focus. And most importantly, there is once again a government that is prepared to roll up its sleeves and do the hard work required to move this country forward.
The UNC Government remains fully committed to restoring economic strength, supporting our communities, creating opportunities for our young people, and ensuring that Trinidad and Tobago moves confidently toward a more prosperous future.
The work continues. And together, we will rebuild this nation.
