MORE THAN 14,000 persons have entered Trinidad and Tobago since the borders re-opened on July 17.
Many of these people were vaccinated against Covid-19 and some 1,000 children who arrived were unvaccinated.
This is according to epidemiologist Dr Avery Hinds at the Ministry of Health’s virtual media conference on Monday.
He said 14,222 vaccinated persons, nationals and non-nationals travelled to the country as well as 452 unvaccinated adults.
He added that 168 children arriving were vaccinated because of their age group.
Dr Hinds, “We had more of the identification of Covid-19 in the unvaxxed population as expected.”
Of the vaccinated population, a very small percentage tested positive for the virus.
Unvaccinated persons were 42 times more likely to be tested positive, Dr Hinds said.
With that in mind, he again urged the population to be vaccinated once eligible.
“That gives you an idea of how well the vaccine actually works to reduce risk of becoming affected in the first place,” Dr Hinds said.
