MORE than special reserve police officers have successfully graduated from their training programme, 95 of which will be deployed to high-risk schools.
Minister of Homeland Security Roger Alexander attended the graduation and swearing-in ceremony of Batch 1/2025 of the Trinidad and Tobago Special Reserve Police (SRP), where 247 officers officially took their oath of service to Trinidad and Tobago.
The ministry stated the 147 men and 100 women began training on May 13 and has since completed over 450 hours of intensive academic and practical instruction. Their training has covered: criminal law, police duties, evidence and procedure, traffic laws, behavioural science, ethics and integrity, first aid & CPR, firearms training and community-oriented policing.
Additionally, 95 of those officers are now undergoing specialised school-oriented policing training, and will be deployed to high-risk schools across Trinidad and Tobago in the new school term.
“This initiative is a critical step in our efforts to curb school violence, promote peer counselling, and ensure that our children learn in environments of safety and respect,” the ministry stated.
Alexander encouraged the graduates to uphold their duties with integrity, discipline, and compassion.
Also in attendance to Friday’s ceremony was Police Commissioner Allister Guevarro and Minister of Local Government and Rural Development Khadijah Ameen.
