CEDROS — Approximately 15 households in the Cedros district have been affected by flooding following persistent heavy rainfall, prompting an immediate response from the Ministry of Rural Development and Local Government (MoRDLG) on Sunday.

The Ministry’s Disaster Management Unit is currently on the ground conducting damage assessments across several hard-hit communities where water has intruded into homes, according to a release on Sunday.

The affected areas include Bonasse Village, specifically Manmohan Singh Street and Edward Street; Fullerton’s beachfront and village areas; Limefield Village, including Campbell Street; and the St. Mary’s Housing Development along Perseverance Road.

The Honourable Khadijah Ameen, Minister of Rural Development and Local Government, has directed teams to provide immediate relief to the impacted residents.

“Immediate assistance will be provided to affected residents, including cleaning supplies and support for clean-up operations,” the Ministry said in a statement on Sunday.

Alongside the household flooding, officials are closely monitoring river levels in the nearby Icacos area, where waterways are reported to be at bank-full capacity. Authorities are also keeping a watchful eye on tidal conditions, which could further threaten low-lying coastal communities.

The Ministry confirmed it had received one report of a potential landslide. However, preliminary assessments indicate that the nearby house is not under immediate threat, and officials have determined the matter to be private in nature.

To coordinate the emergency response, the MoRDLG is collaborating with the Siparia Regional Corporation, local Members of Parliament, and other first responder agencies to ensure the safety and well-being of residents.

The Ministry is urging residents in the affected areas to take all necessary precautions and avoid traversing floodwaters. Anyone requiring assistance is advised to contact the Siparia Regional Corporation Disaster Management Unit.
