FURTHER marketing opportunities for farmers and the new Fisheries Legislation Bill were among some of the issues discussed on Tuesday by stakeholders in the agricultural sector.
A release from the Ministry of Agriculture, Land and Fisheries stated that Agriculture Minister Kazim Hosein met with representatives of nine state agencies, the first such meeting since assuming office on March 16.
The ministry stated, “Amongst the items discussed were the identification of further marketing opportunities for farmers through the National Agricultural Marketing and Development Corporation (NAMDEVCO) and the Agricultural Development Bank (ADB), the new Fisheries Legislation Bill which is currently before Parliament, the issue of land surveying, land tenureship, wildlife conservation and forming strategic alliances with key stakeholders to assist the Agriculture Ministry in further advancing its mandate.”
Ministers in the ministry, Avinash Singh and Nigel de Freitas, also attended the meeting along with key ministry officials.
The meeting took place at the ministry’s head office in Chaguanas.
Hosein was provided with a status update on the operations at these state agencies.
At the end of the meeting, Hosein thanked attendees and promised continued collaboration with all agencies including the Estate Management Business Development Company (EMBD).
