A MOTHER and her eight-year-old daughter have perished in a fire at their home in Siparia.
Kemba Morris and her daughter Zaya could not escape the flames that spread through their home at Quiman Road while they were trapped in their kitchen.
Their burned bodies were found huddled together by fire officers.
Reports are that the fire began at around 5.15 am on Sunday.
Also at the house were Morris’s sister and her two older children ages 21 and 16 who managed to escape.
They were taken to the Siparia District Health Facility for treatment.
Morris worked as a cashier at a bakery and Zaya attended the St Brigid’s Girls’ RC Primary School.
The house was completely destroyed as well as a Toyota Corolla Cross SUV which was parked outside.
Fire officers are investigating to find out the cause of the blaze.
