A 25-year-old Penal man charged with common assault and assault occasioning actual bodily harm appeared before a Siparia magistrate on Wednesday.
He was granted $50,000 bail with a surety.
The man is expected to reappear on July 12, 2022. As part of his bail condition, the man was ordered to have no contact with his common-law wife and report to the station three times per week.
According to a police report, around 3 pm on Wednesday a woman was at home in her bedroom with a man when an argument ensued.
The man then allegedly struck her in her back, cuffed her in her face and head, pulled her hair, placed a knife to her neck and threatened her.
The incident was reported to the Penal Police Station by the woman and the man was subsequently arrested and charged for the offences.
