THE Rapidfire Kidz Foundation has joined the global observance of International Women’s Day, calling for stronger action to protect the rights and dignity of women and girls while highlighting the contributions of women to community and national development.
In a statement marking International Women’s Day on March 8, 2026, Vice President of the foundation, Rev Joy Abdul-Mohan, said the day offers an opportunity to honour the “courage, resilience and determination of ordinary women who have played extraordinary roles in shaping our communities and our nation.” She noted that this year’s theme, “Rights, Justice, Action – For All Women and Girls,” underscores the need for renewed commitment to human rights and gender equality.
However, Abdul-Mohan expressed concern that the observance continues to take place against a troubling backdrop of violence against women and girls.
“It grieves me that we continue to mark this significant day against the backdrop of persistent and brutal violence against women and girls — violence that is too often perpetrated by those who are expected to love and protect them,” she said.
She also criticized attitudes that blame victims of abuse, describing such views as harmful and unjust. According to Abdul-Mohan, societies must confront harmful stereotypes, challenge bias and actively work to build healthier and more respectful relationships.
“In a world marked by injustice, violence and a breakdown of trust, women are continually called upon to challenge traditional pieties and deeply rooted preconceptions in the pursuit of a more just and compassionate society,” she said.
Abdul-Mohan emphasised that empowering women is essential to improving the quality of life for all people. She noted that women often serve as catalysts for change, bringing innovative approaches to leadership grounded in empathy, courage and integrity.
She said women must continue to lead with visions of peace, unity, equality and justice despite the many obstacles that seek to hinder their progress.
The foundation also highlighted its work through the Eyes Rights Project, one of its signature initiatives, which has provided hundreds of pairs of eyeglasses to primary school girls. The initiative aims to help young students fully benefit from their right to education by addressing vision challenges that can hinder learning.
As the world observes International Women’s Day, Abdul-Mohan said the foundation envisions a future where the rights of every individual are recognized and respected.
“We envision a world that is truly just and equitable — a world where difference is valued and celebrated, and where women and girls are empowered to thrive,” she said.
