POLICE are investigating the murders of three young men whose bodies were found with gunshot wounds at a house in Penal, South Trinidad.
Police have identified the victims as 17-year-old Jordan Cudjoe Burke, 22-year-old Ishmael Matthews, and 21-year-old Roberto Samuel Carlos.
According to reports, during the early hours of Sunday morning, a resident was awakened by several loud explosions at the two-storey house. Upon checking a downstairs bedroom, the occupant discovered the three men lying dead with gunshot wounds.
Police said they have not yet established a motive for the killings. Investigators recovered multiple spent and live 9mm shells in the room where the bodies were found.
This latest triple murder follows the death of Shaquille Layne Samuel, whose body was found along the Eastern Main Road in Sangre Grande on Sunday.
Police said officers attached to the Eastern Division Task Force received information about a shooting near a bar. Upon arrival, they found Samuel lying on the side of the roadway with what appeared to be multiple gunshot wounds.
He was taken by police to the Sangre Grande Hospital, where he was treated by medical staff but pronounced dead shortly after.
Crime scene investigators recovered 11 spent 9mm shells at the scene. No motive has been established for this killing, and no arrests have been made.
These weekend killings have taken the country’s murder toll for the year so far to 72.
For the corresponding period last year, 88 murders were recorded. Trinidad and Tobago is currently under a state of emergency (SoE) as authorities seek to curb violent crime and other illegal activities across the country. (CMC)
