Voters Urged to Beware of Unofficial Election Website in Grenada

In Brief

  • Fake website warning: The Parliamentary Elections Office (PEO) in Grenada is warning voters about an unofficial website directing people to polling stations.
  • Risk of disenfranchisement: Relying on the site, votersgd.com, could lead citizens to the wrong locations and affect their ability to cast their ballots.
  • Official channels only: The PEO is urging the public to verify their registration and polling station assignments exclusively through official government sources.
  • Action taken: Authorities are actively working to have the inaccurate information removed and are asking citizens to report any suspicious platforms.
  • Election looming: The warning comes as Prime Minister Dickon Mitchell prepares to officially launch the ruling party’s election campaign on 4 October.

ST GEORGE’S, Grenada, (CMC) – The Parliamentary Elections Office (PEO) on Tuesday urged voters to be wary of a website it says is directing people to polling stations and voting locations as Grenadians prepare for a general election, which is constitutionally due no later than October 2027 but widely expected to be held later this year.

In a statement, the PEO said it had become aware of the website https://votersgd.com, which is “not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated by the PEO.”

“We have become aware that this website is directing persons to polling stations and voting locations. The Parliamentary Elections Office has not provided this information to the operators of this site, and we are therefore unable to verify its accuracy,” the statement read.

Polling station assignments are determined using registration records and official data held by the Parliamentary Elections Office. Voters who rely on unofficial sources may be directed to the wrong polling station, which would affect their ability to exercise their right to vote.”

The PEO said it is urging voters to confirm their polling stations only “through our official channels… bring the required identification on Election Day, and be cautious of any website, social media page, or message claiming to represent the Parliamentary Elections Office.”

The PEO is also urging voters to check that the web address “matches our official address exactly.” They are also urged to report suspicious sites.

“We take the integrity of this process and the right of every eligible citizen to vote seriously. We are also taking steps to have the inaccurate information removed, and we will keep the public informed,” the PEO added.

Last weekend, Prime Minister Dickon Mitchell said the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) will officially launch its campaign for the general election on 4 October.

Mitchell, who led the NDC to victory in 2022 after it won nine of the 15 seats at stake, had earlier warned supporters that they should seek to be registered to vote before Friday.
